In Australia baggage allowances vary according to size, weight and type with each airline. The maximum weight of individual items is 32 kg. Allowances for first and business class passengers may be different. Charges may apply for items exceeding 20 kg. For specific information contact your airline directly.

Unaccompanied baggage and household goods may be imported into Australia free of customs duty, preceding departure of the customer for Australia and providing the personal and household effects have been owned and used overseas for 12 months or more. Other items of baggage, which have been owned and used for less than twelve months will be subject to duty. It should be mentioned that naccompanied personal effects do not include commercial goods, motor vehicles and motor vehicle parts.

To have their goods cleared by Customs the owner of the unaccompanied personal effects must complete an Unaccompanied Effects Statement (B534 form).  The form must be completed by the owner.  It is available in a number of foreign languages, nevertheless, must be completed in English.
