All airlines have limits on the amount of free baggage that may accompany a passenger on their flights. This allowance is dependant on the class traveled however, it is usually 20 kg.

Excess baggage charges imposed by the airlines are expensive and are based on 1% of the first class airfare to your destination.

You can save you money by sending your excess as unaccompanied baggage.

Excess baggage charges apply when a traveler’s checked-in baggage exceeds the free allowance either by weight or by the number of pieces allowed to carry.

For flights within New Zealand, excess baggage is charged per additional piece over the permitted allowance.
Flights between New Zealand, Australia, the Cook Islands, Fiji, Norfolk Island, Samoa, Tonga and Noumea, excess baggage is charged per kg over the permitted allowance.
